- One faction of one party, in one house of Congress, in one branch of government, doesn't get to shut down the entire government just to refight the results of an election.
- We’re in a political depression – a great political depression
- Three of the last four [elections], ’06, ’08, and ’12, were disastrous for Republicans. And they were years in which we just we stayed quiet, we went along the get-along, we didn’t stand on principle. The only year that was a good year for Republicans was 2010, when we painted in bold colors, not in pale pastels. We stood for principle. I think winning this fight right now is the most important thing we can do to see significant victories in 2014.
- You know what? I think the American people are a little pissed, and I think they’re pissed at both parties - I think they’re really pissed at both parties - and it will be reflected during election time…

- When it comes to the budget, we know that we shouldn't be cutting more on core investments, like education, that are going to help us grow in the future. And we've already seen the deficit cut in half. It's going down faster than any time in the last 60 years. So why would we make more cuts in education, more cuts in basic research? Nobody thinks that's a good idea.
- They don't simply want the government to keep the peace and create a level playing field. They want the government to ensure that every accident and every piece of bad luck is prevented, or that they would be fully compensated in the event something goes wrong. And if the price of the house drops, they will hold the government responsible for that, too.
- Both parties have laid a trap for future generations by our inaction, our laziness, our arrogance, and a crass desire for power.
- We are a party -- We are a party of innovation. We do not reject our traditions, but we are willing to adapt to changing circumstances, when change we must. We are willing to suffer the discomfort of change in order to achieve a better future.
- The Moral Majority supports legislators who oppose abortions but also oppose child nutrition and day care. From their perspective, life begins at conception and ends at birth.
- There are plenty of team players in government who do whatever the leader says. There are too few difficult members, who have complicated minds, unusual perspectives, the toughness to withstand the party-line barrages and a practical interest in producing results.
