- Shutting down the government, in my view, is not conservative policy. I don’t think a two-week paid vacation for federal employees is conservative policy. A number of us were saying back in July that this strategy could not and would not work. And, of course, it didn’t. So there’ll not be another government shutdown, you can count on that.
- This is why I think the shutdown was so magnificent, run beautifully. I’m so proud of these Republicans….Obamacare is very unpopular. If you want to overturn it, America, vote for more Republicans. We need to take the Senate.
- It is a law of nature that everything run by the government will get more expensive and worse over time. Everything run by the private sector will get better and cheaper over time. The fact that [Obamacare] starts this badly does not bode well….We want healthcare run on the same system that gave us cell phones, flat screens, Jerry Garcia chia pets. Everything you submit to the free market…keeps getting better and better.
- Do you want smaller government with less handouts, or do you want a low minimum wage? Because you cannot have both. If Colonel Sanders isn't going to pay the lady behind the counter enough to live on, then Uncle Sam has to. And I, for one, am getting a little tired of helping highly-profitable companies pay their workers.
- You know what? I think the American people are a little pissed, and I think they’re pissed at both parties - I think they’re really pissed at both parties - and it will be reflected during election time…
- If you are a furloughed government employee, we encourage you to reach out to your financial institution as soon as you worry you may miss a paycheck. Financial institutions offer short-term loans and other resources. Don’t wait until you are behind on a bill; call now and explore your options.
- One faction of one party, in one house of Congress, in one branch of government, doesn't get to shut down the entire government just to refight the results of an election.
- While the president is happy to negotiate with Vladimir Putin, he won't engage with congress.
- The first question that they should ask themself, what do wars give America? ...No political gain, no economic gain, no good reputation. United States is at all low...the credibility is at...all-time low. So this war is against the interests of the United States.
- To all the young people out there who think money and fame is important: that’s only a small piece of the pie. You need an education to be totally secure in life. I feel very secure I can go get a real job now.
- We want [government] down to the size to where it would fit in a bathtub, and then it could worry about what we were up to.
- When it comes to the budget, we know that we shouldn't be cutting more on core investments, like education, that are going to help us grow in the future. And we've already seen the deficit cut in half. It's going down faster than any time in the last 60 years. So why would we make more cuts in education, more cuts in basic research? Nobody thinks that's a good idea.
