- This is a tragic day in what has already been a tragic year for Malaysia. As we work to understand what happened, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those on the flight. I cannot imagine what they must be going through at this time. The flight and crew came from many different countries, but regardless of nationality, we are all united in grief.
- The relationship has truly been fine. Our defense cooperation and intelligence sharing, which has been substantial in both directions, and our work on anti-missile and anti-rocket defense have been very good. And this work continues under Chuck Hagel and President Obama - and I’m pleased with that. That doesn’t mean we can’t have differences of opinion on Iran.
- There are an awful lot of things going on that need understanding and explanation, but - to put it mildly - the world is a mess.
- It sounds funny to say, but we saw [Kate’s wedding to Prince William] as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn't realize - perhaps - the scale of it until afterwards. We all took on the roles as any family would.
- We say no to whites owning our land, and they should go…They can own companies and apartments…but not the soil. It is ours, and that message should ring loud and clear in Britain and the United States.
- I’m absolutely, utterly, and completely certain that God wouldn’t be homophobic. I'd much rather go to hell - I really would much rather go to hell - than go to a homophobic heaven.
- Gandhi…failed at the Bar. Not just once, but twice. And had he succeeded as a lawyer in Bombay, you and I would not be having this conversation.
- If you can't afford to take care of your veterans, then don't go to war.
- Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country. It's kleptocracy, it's corruption, it's a nation that's really only dependent upon oil and gas for their economy.
- The ongoing war in Afghanistan is being imposed on us, and Afghans are being sacrificed in it for someone else's interests. We are not blocking the interests of the United States or other major powers. But we are demanding that if you consider Afghanistan the place from which to advance your interests, then you should also pay attention to Afghanistan’s interests.
- We all need to get the balance right between action and reflection. With so many distractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock.
- I am very sad to see that the Olympic Games in Sochi, for which we have so long and anxiously prepared, will come to pass with less brilliance and passion because of this unfortunate initiative that was so hastily -- and I believe without thoughtful discussion -- adopted by parliament.
