- [West Africa's] health system has completely collapsed. And by that I mean they don't have capacity to even see patients. Every day they are seeing patients - mothers present with dead babies in their womb because there's no one to do a C-section.
- The issue that a political campaign would make a human life into - you know - a political football, is unsettling.
- You got to focus on when he was smiling. You have to focus on his first day of school. You have to focus on Christmas day and things like that - the happier times. And put a picture up of when he was happy. You have to focus on those. Just don’t focus on the death. Because that’s gonna eat away at you.
- I believe the gun has no power because a gun can only kill, but a pen can give life.
- Odd how often blood is shed to obtain freedom from those in power. Oppressors must be the most insecure people in the world.
- There is no news value to the content of those [Newtown 911] tapes. The actual audio is of no news value at all, unless you want the thrill of hearing the sound of the actual individual gunshot that might have killed a 7 year-old.
- Even here in America, we felt the cool, refreshing breeze of freedom when Nelson Mandela took the seat of Presidency in his country where formerly he was not even allowed to vote. We were enlarged by tears of pride as we saw Nelson Mandela’s former prison guards invited, courteously, by him to watch from the front rows his inauguration.
- In the midst of our grief, we have come to realize that we want our loved ones to be remembered for the lives they lived and how they touched our hearts.
- I’m so sick and tired of all this violence, this gun violence. And how could I speak on it - you know - being one who has advocated violence and gun violence? The only way I could do it was through a song that spoke from the heart.
- If we took just five minutes to recognize each other’s beauty instead of attacking each other for our differences, that’s not hard. It’s really an easier way to live. And ultimately it saves lives. Then again, it can be the hardest thing. Because loving other people starts with loving ourselves and accepting ourselves.
- This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love. Tonight, I stand here in front of the world for you.
- If I die unexpectedly, can everyone just do the right thing and pretend I was a way better person than I am?
