Given the gaps of trust that exist, that's a tough negotiation, and we haven't yet closed the gaps in a way where we think it would actually work.

You know, just to be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it.

His vision of America is one where we Americans are kind of helpless. We need to be rescued… I can't really imagine him on a white horse, but that seems to be what he is telling us: 'I alone can fix it.'

We're talking about the direction of our country, our children's future, the direction of the Supreme Court, all of this hinging on the next election. And at such a time as this, you cannot be lukewarm. We're going to take our country back, and you are either with us or against us.

The court looks the other way as yet another federal district judge casts aside state laws without making any effort to preserve the status quo pending the court’s resolution of a constitutional question it left open in United States v. Windsor…This acquiescence may well be seen as a signal of the court’s intended resolution of that question.

I do not believe - and I know this is a horrible thing to say - but I do not believe that the president loves America. He doesn’t love you, and he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up, through love of this country…with all our flaws, we’re the most exceptional country in the world. I’m looking for a presidential candidate who can express that, do that, and carry it out.
