- The really great athletes make their news on the field, not off the field.
- You might compare this to a triathlon. You know you've got to swim and you've got to bicycle and you've got to run…You don't make it to run if you're not going to do the other two.
- I can't play the game of basketball and live my life on what other people expect me to do or what they think I should do. That doesn't make me happy. What makes me happy is being able to make plays for my teammates, to be able to represent the name on the back of my jersey.
- My dream is not over yet. It was interrupted by one move. But it will continue, and I’m certain that my teammates will do whatever possible so I can fulfill my dream of being a champion. I won’t be able to fulfill the dream of playing in a World Cup final, but I’m sure they will win this one. They will become champions, and I will be there with them, and all of Brazil will be celebrating together.
- I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.
- Liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys. No serious sport is co-ed, even at the kindergarten level.
- My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.
- You have to be realistic. Every year we are getting stronger. We don't look at ourselves as underdogs - we are not. We are going to take the game to Ghana and they will take it to us.
