- I’m not concerned [about Ebola]. I’ve had no fluid exchanges with my neighbors.
- Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more. The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!
- You have to get [Ebola] through secretion, blood, that type of transmission. So this is not a situation where you go to the grocery store and you get infected with the virus.
- I will die upstairs in my bedroom that I share with my husband - with my mother and my husband by my side – and pass peacefully, with some music that I like in the background.
- In your choosing your own death, you are robbing those that love you with such tenderness the opportunity of meeting you in your last moments…That last kiss, that last warm touch, that last breath, matters - but it was never intended for us to decide when that last breath is breathed.
- We’re coming into flu season. Is every flu patient going to be [reported as] a possible Ebola case? If so, it’s going to be a nightmare. At some point we’ll reach saturation. But right now, we just need to take a deep breath.
- If we work hard, we shouldn't have to struggle. There are millions of us working hard who are struggling…We've got kids we have to take care of, and it's really depressing when you can't buy the proper shoes you need for your kids.
- Robin [Williams] was a world treasure. As we mourn his tragic death, we must remember him for the great waves of laughter that he was able to illicit from us, how his humor and insights - though they came from a place of pain and uncertainty - connected us and reminded us of how flawed and fragile...how human we are. How we are capable of moments of inspired transcendence and others of unspeakable despair.
- Three weeks ago, half the population didn't know what ALS is. Now millions of people do, and that's generated hundreds of thousands of contributors to the cause.
- I wasn’t given a fair trial or anything. It’s sad that this process can be abused and that the university can totally change somebody’s life, with very little evidence...In the real world, rape and sexual assault are crimes punishable by going to jail - and rightfully so. Why is [campus sexual assault] left up to schools?
- Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality. What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.
- I don’t believe we’ll ever be back to normal, but this is not going to be our new normal. We’re going to fix this. Our city is not going to be abandoned.
