- Russia's partners... should understand it's best not to mess with us. Thank God, I think no one is thinking of unleashing a large-scale conflict with Russia. I want to remind you that Russia is one of the leading nuclear powers.
- Democrats want Washington’s NFL team to change its name. The Redskins‘ owner, Mr. Snyder, is the only person who can rightfully do this. Hence, if he chooses to comply and pays homage to a Republican president in the process, [Democrats] are stuck with it. Any further complaints would smack of political partisanship.
- This was a moment for Goodell to show that domestic violence will not be tolerated on his watch. This was a moment for the man who speaks of honoring the “Shield,” as if his league were West Point or Annapolis, to make players understand the part of their contract that carries a moral turpitude clause — that being a good citizen is more important than being a great football player. This was not a moment for a $45-million-a-year sports attorney, with no mental-health training in his background, to play domestic-abuse counselor and therapist in his Manhattan office.
- A ceasefire is what we should prioritize now. A ceasefire protects civilians on both sides. It doesn't just say, "We're only concerned about people on one side." I've been to Sderot, I have stuck with those people, talking about those rockets and that indiscriminate rocket fire - and I've also been to Gaza three times since 2009. And I can tell you, those people are absolutely devastated….we need a ceasefire now.
- I think what we have created is a timid and often craven political culture in Washington. And I think the one thing that we haven't really captured is the degree to which money is driving that. I think that Republicans are fearful of primary opponents, so they don't want to move toward the middle - they move toward the extreme.
- Every morning at school - they had schools in those barracks - we started the day with The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag….and there was the American flag flying over the camp. But I could also see the barbed wire fence - and the sentry towers with the machine guns pointed at us - from my schoolhouse window, as I recited the words, “with liberty and justice for all.
- Net Neutrality’ is Obamacare for the Internet; the Internet should not operate at the speed of government.
- You know, we did a good job in containing the Soviet Union, but we made a lot of mistakes. We supported really nasty guys, we did some things that we are not particularly proud of, from Latin America to Southeast Asia. But we did have a kind of overarching framework about what we were trying to do that did lead to the defeat of the Soviet Union and the collapse of Communism. That was our objective. We achieved it.
- Power tends to corrupt. But the power in Washington resides in Congress, if it wants to use it. It can do anything—it can stop the Vietnam War. It can make its will felt, if it can ever get its act together to do anything.
- The fact that the senators aren’t here and Harry Reid is off somewhere is all the evidence that you need to know that they want to shut down the government. I personally believe that Sen. Reid and the president — for political purposes — want to shut down the government.
- Congress needs to send a strong signal that direct communication with the leader of the free world is a privilege, particularly for a regime that has been as hostile as Iran has been towards America for more than three decades. President Rouhani needs to take these two simple steps to demonstrate good faith before any further discussions.
- I can't concern myself with how viewers feel.
