- 50 years later we need to have a conversation…not just about civil rights, C-I-V-I-L, but about silver rights, S-I-L-V-E-R. That is to say: economic rights, economic freedoms. Black folk lag behind in every leading economic category 50 years later, even in the Obama era. And the bottom line is this: if you don’t have economic freedom, you really ain’t free.
- We’re definitely blessed to get a scholarship to our universities, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t cover everything. We do have hungry nights that we don’t have enough money to get food.
- The huge thing about mental health treatment and mental health care is that you’re encouraged to suck things up and deal…There’s a lot of attention on injury or physical problems, but when they’re invisible wounds or mental health issues, then it’s a personal issue.
- There’s a reason survivors choose not to go to the police, and that’s because they’re treated as the criminals. The rapists are innocent until proven guilty, but survivors are guilty until proven innocent - at least in the eyes of the police.
- In battle, combatants engaged in war against America get no due process and may lawfully be killed. But citizens not in a battlefield - however despicable - are guaranteed a trial by our Constitution. No one argues that Americans who commit treason shouldn’t be punished. The maximum penalty for treason is death. But the Constitution specifies the process necessary to convict.
- We see fans of all shapes and sizes and genders in comic stores and at conventions. And we perceived there to be a real thirst for characters that reflect what we see in the mirror. From Miles Morales, the African-American Spider-Man, to the new female Thor, our goal is to make our characters reflect the outside world.
- I would love to play Nefertiti or Cleopatra or the Queen of Sheba. We preserve more male history than we do female. We have to preserve [female history]. No more complaining. We have to do it.

- Here are white men poised to run big marijuana businesses, dreaming of cashing in big - big money, big businesses selling weed. After 40 years of impoverished black kids getting prison time for selling weed - and their families and futures destroyed. Now, white men are planning to get rich doing precisely the same thing?
- It’s a struggle every day, to stay present, not to become that…eight year old who was bullied and chased home from school. Some days I wake up and it’s like I’m eight years old again. And I’m scared for my life, and I don’t know if I’m going to be beaten up that day.
- We say no to whites owning our land, and they should go…They can own companies and apartments…but not the soil. It is ours, and that message should ring loud and clear in Britain and the United States.
- If [women] really want it and they are really capable, I think they can make it. If you are determined and passionate about it, I don’t think there are any roadblocks. Gender doesn’t matter at a leadership level.
